What happens, step by step

1

Tell us what you want

We start by listening. What do you like about your smile? What would you change? You don’t need to do everything at once.

2

Photos and a checkup

We take photos and check your teeth, gums and bite. Healthy teeth come first.

3

Your smile plan

During your consultations, Dr. Barbat discusses different tooth shapes and shades with you. When appropriate, a wax model helps you visualize the proposed changes before treatment. She also explains how many visits each choice takes and what it costs.

4

Your treatment

Some treatments take one visit. Veneers usually take two or more.

5

Check and care

We check your bite and show you how to care for your new smile.

We can go a little at a time, at your pace.

If you’re anxious about cosmetic treatment, we’ll discuss sedation options based on your health, comfort level and the care you need. We most commonly use oral sedation. IV sedation with Dr. Shakfa is also available when appropriate.

Questions people ask

How much does cosmetic dentistry cost?

Your initial cosmetic consultation is complimentary. If diagnostic records, imaging, or other services are needed, we will review any associated fees with you before proceeding. Treatment costs depend on your individual needs. Financing options are available.

See Costs & Insurance

Does insurance pay for cosmetic dentistry?

Dental insurance generally does not cover treatment performed solely to improve appearance. Some restorative treatment may be covered, depending on your policy. Our team can help you review your benefits and understand your expected costs.

Will my new smile look fake?
It should not. Dr. Barbat picks a color, size and shape that fit your face and your other teeth. You help choose how bright you want to go.
Are veneers permanent?
Veneers are a long-term commitment. When enamel is removed to place them, that change cannot be reversed. Veneers can last for many years, but they may need repair or replacement. Minimal-preparation options may be suitable for some patients. No-preparation veneers are rarely appropriate. Read more about veneers.
Is whitening safe for my teeth?
We’ll check whether whitening is appropriate for your teeth and explain how to use it safely. Temporary sensitivity or gum irritation can occur. Whitening lightens natural teeth but does not change the color of crowns, veneers or fillings.
How long does a smile makeover take?
It depends on what you choose. In-office whitening takes one visit, and bonding often does too. A full makeover can take a few weeks to a few months. Once we’ve evaluated your teeth and discussed your treatment plan, we’ll explain the expected timeline.
What about snap-on veneers?
We do not recommend them. Read why we don’t recommend snap-on veneers.
